Economic Development Q&A series – Member Projects: Pole Mountain Pharmacy
We spoke to Brett Kvenild at Pole Mountain Pharmacy, one of our newest members. Their latest project was building their company from the ground up. Read ahead for the conversation.
Q: Why did you decide to open a pharmacy in Laramie?
A: I grew up in Laramie, and I've been a pharmacist here for 15 years. There’s no place I’d rather be. I’ve wanted to own my own pharmacy for a long time and when I saw this opportunity at 4th and Harney I jumped at the chance.
Q: What was the process like since you started from the ground up?
A: We were really pleased with the knowledge base and skills of our local partners like First Interstate Bank, Cowboy Properties, Cindy Delaney, CPA, Mike Snyder of Legacy Construction, our graphic designer Jessica Perry, and Brian Harrington photography. The staff at the State Board of Pharmacy was helpful and responsive. The encouragement and support of the local business community has been incredible every step of the way.
Q: Can you explain the day to day at Pole Mountain Pharmacy? Is it similar to a typical pharmacy?
A: As a retail pharmacy, we fill prescriptions, provide one on one consultations, and administer vaccinations. We can bill most insurances plans and have a nice selection of over the counter products. A few unusual services we provide include medication synchronization so that all of your prescriptions will be filled the same day each month, curbside pick-up and drop-off, free delivery within Laramie, and custom flavoring for children's medications.
Q: How will this business impact the Laramie economy and how do you think it will increase the local tax base?
A: Right now we have created three jobs. We hope to bring on additional pharmacists and technicians as soon as business allows.
