August 2019 Business of the Month: First American Title, Inc

This month, First American Title, Inc was awarded the Laramie Chamber Business Alliance’s ‘Business of the Month’. We met with Area Manager, Noel Welch and Branch Manager, Alexia Jones.

The company has been the oldest title company in Wyoming. “It was locally owned for a long time, when it was an abstract company back in the 1900 and was later a title company known as Albany County Title,” said Welch.  Around 1995, Albany County Title was purchased by First American Title. Three years ago, First American Title purchased one of their competitors and grew from there.

First American Title is actively involved in the community on a variety of projects. “I’m involved in Rotary and Alexia is in Leadership Laramie on the second year Steering Committee,” said Welch. “Our group project was for Interfaith Good Samaritan,” remarked Jones. “I encourage volunteering and always tell my employees, if there’s anything that they want to do, then we will look at paying the fees for it,” added Welch.

“We do golf tournaments, which is fun! We sponsored a hole for the Cathedral Home Tournament,” said Welch, “In addition, various high school student clubs come in and we try to do what we can, it’s a case by case basis.”

“The summer really picks up. We see a bigger uptick than other offices in Wyoming,” said Welch, “I call it the perfect storm between the weather getting good, the University, and everyone is moving out and in. We nearly triple our business in the summertime.”

Welch has been with the company for over 20 years and Jones for over 12 years. There are 9 employees in the office. Most of the employees have Laramie roots and have been in the business for many years.

“Our experience level is quite high,” added Jones, “Our turnover rate is not high. It’s a good company to work for. Everyone enjoys what they do, even though it’s stressful. Everyone feels like they have a rewarding position. I think it speaks volumes that we don’t have a turnover rate,” added Alexia. “You can see it in how we present ourselves at the table.” “In stressful jobs, it’s hard to find people who enjoy it,” said Welch, “There’s no degree in what we do.”

“For people buying houses, it is the biggest purchase of their life and it can be stressful. Our goal is to help wherever we can and make it less stressful as much as we can,” said Welch, “Even though we are a big company, we pride ourselves on our small-town representation and value every relationship.”
