Laramie’s Basecamp is opting out of Black Friday shopping and will be closing its doors for the day to focus on adventure. “Adventure today, shop tomorrow is our slogan,” said Rebecca Walsh, Basecamp’s owner. “Black Friday was our second biggest shopping day of the year, last year, so I’m hopeful we will still come out ahead,” she added, “Instead of shopping, we have a 5K walk/run, then a family snowshoe adventure, a classic ski tour and skate ski lesson – all depending on if there’s snow. If there isn’t snow, we will have some other options. Finally, from 4-7 we will have a happy hour here with mocktails, live music, and a big give-away!”
Rebecca noted that Shop Small Saturday was where they were going to do their big shopping push with hot cocoa and a doorbuster sale. Over 70 Laramie Businesses are participating in the Shop Small Saturday event, offering a variety of discounts and incentives.
Laramie’s Basecamp has been busy as they recently moved next door into a smaller location. Along with the move, the shop is finishing up the seasonal rental window for Nordic and downhill skis, with downhill rentals being a new offering this year. They will soon turn the season rentals over to day-rentals.
Rebecca added that their other focus this winter will be on providing guiding and ski lessons. They also offer monthly clinics at their store including first aid and CPR. “This Friday we will be holding a clinic on winter prep for wee ones. Sometimes parents are afraid of taking their babies, toddlers, or little kids outside when it is cold, so we will have tips on what to wear, where to go, what to eat – and talk from our personal experiences.” She added, “Winter is so long in Laramie, that if you don’t go outside, you will go crazy!”
